Mental illness has carried a huge social stigma partly because of mentally unstable individuals in the news. They tend to be portrayed as violent in the media while toting weapons. Many people feel reluctant to seek out help for any mental disorder due to being labeled as crazy. In the US, we have over 1.5 million individuals with some sort of mental disorder which can be very debilitating over the course of one’s lifetime. The cost associated with treatment can be out of reach for many sick individuals.
