Milan Kordestani Innovating For Saffron, Growing Organic Chickens And Competing In World Championships
Saffron is a wonderful spice that adds an incredibly delicate flavor and color to a dish. Chefs love the spice because it adds a faint new element to the flavor profile. But saffron is difficult to grow and is incredibly rare. This is all due to the fact that saffron is the stem growing out of a delicate flower. However, Milan Kordestani and his team at Milan Farms are delivering organically grown saffron to restaurants in the Northern California area at a dizzying pace.
The farm is able to do this because they grow the saffron hydroponically on microfiber sponges. This is a bit controversial because conventional saffron enthusiasts believe that the spice needs to be grown in a traditional way. But Milan Kordestani notes that his team is focused on the future which requires innovation. Milan Farms is currently focusing on the perfect salinity level to grow even more flavorful saffron.
Milan Farms also offers up a variety of herbs including mint. Free-range chickens can be found roaming the farm, as well. These chickens produce some of the richest eggs in the United States. Milan Kordestani likes to say the flavor comes from the humane treatment of the poultry, and he is banking on consumers recognizing this humane treatment.
The young Milan Kordestani believes that the consumer can be educated. And an educated consumer will always use her money to buy the most wholesome and humane option when it comes to poultry, meat and produce. Milan Kordestani hopes to educate the public in his farm’s humane treatment of poultry.
Milan Kordestani is also a reporter for the Huffington Post and a college student. He grew up in the northern California area before his parents divorced. He was temporarily relocated to London, England, before he came back to California in order to graduate from high school. He currently attends college in Northern California.
And all of this comes after an accomplished equestrian career. In 2016, his equestrian riding prowess was on full display when he captured second-place at the world championships. He has also placed at the American Royal show in 2015.
