Eric Lefkofsky: Tempus Co-Founder, Educator, Author And Generous, Committed Philanthropist

Michigan native and serial entrepreneur Eric Lefkofsky is helping to dramatically improve cancer care and treatment through technology developed by Tempus Labs, a company he co-founded in 2015. The Tempus technology enables researchers and medical personnel to better utilize big data analytics to provide more effective targeted therapies for cancer patients. The technology Tempus developed improves cancer testing, machine learning of information from electronic medical records, pathology as well as medical imaging, work with tumor cell organoid cultures and DNA and RNA sequencing of tumors.

Tempus has worked with many academic institutions and National Cancer Institute run comprehensive cancer centers. The technology Tempus Labs has created is anticipated to have such a significant impact on cancer care and medicine in general, Dr. Eric Topol includes the company on his annual list of 10 groundbreaking technologies poised to revolutionize medical care. That list also includes AI technology to diagnose diseases of the eye, the blood pressure watch, treating cancer using Chimeric antigen receptor T Immunotheraphy, two new glucose sensors, diagnosing atrial fibrillation using the KardiaBand, diagnosing skin cancer using a new deep-learning algorithm and new gene editing and therapy technology.

Since getting his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and attending the University of Michigan Law School and earning a law degree, Eric Lefkofsky has not only co-founded Tempus Labs, he co-founded or founded Groupon, Mediaocean, Lightbank, Echo Global Logistics, InnerWorkings, Uptake Technologie and many other companies. In collaboration with Elizabeth his wife, Eric Lefkofsky co-founded the Lefkofsky Family Foundation to improve the lives of people worldwide by supporting initiatives and organizations advancing fundamental human rights, medicine, education, art and culture.

Eric Lefkofsky wrote the ‘Accelerated Disruption: Understanding the True Speed of Innovation’, is an adjunct professor at the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and is very active in supporting social, business and cultural institutions in Chicago. Some of the organizations to which Eric Lefkofsky lends his time, talent and resources include World Business Chicago, the Museaum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and the Lurie Children’s Hospital.
